This stone was classified as sacrifice stone, because it has an artificial rinse on it. But it is more likely this is wrong: When, around 1800, the stone was found in the acre, chiselers tried to make window top stones from it. As they went along, they found that the stone was not ahrd enough for that purpose and they stopped the work. Nevertheless, a Professor found the "blood rinse" and concluded the cultic purpose. That story was told to me by the principal of the estate, wo said it was told to him by his grandfather wo was involved in the window affair.
From Scandinavia in the Würm ice age much coarse boulder was shifted into northern Germany. Later on, many of them became dolmens and passage graves. Even more have been utilized for modern street building. I have collected some of the really big and well known ones to show them here. Whether those erratic blocks have had cult status, is difficult to examine. The southern German standing stones are easier to identify, because they are much more rare, or the original locations are astronomically extraordinary.
