Stiefel - St. Ingbert
Stiefel - St. Ingbert

The boot near St. Ingbert is a rare, from erosion formed sand stone rock. It was center for religious cult at the celtic age. Form of this rock resumes a tipped over shoe or boot. The lower part of the Stiefel is eroded to a column which carries another bulky stone. This gave name to the hill on which it stands.

Rock formations do create strong places. They have been used for rituals, they have given shelter, some were used for meetings. Eroded sand stone and basalt rock forms large parts of middle Germany. In limestone sometimes there exist stalactite caves. When they collapse, the relicts are impressive.
