Menhir upon grave mound - Hohen
Menhir upon grave mound - Hohen

This menhir stands on top of a neolithic grave mound. It consists of quartzite and is 1.63m high.
It represented the forefather, and gave a body for the soul of the dead. To quest him, magical rules were applied to make the stone alive, to make it talk. For this, blood may have played a key role as a substance of life.

Topic of this tour are cups - small artificial holes picked in the surface and are of prehistoric origin. Unfortunately, very little is known about these artifacts. In Bunsoh I cannot imagine, that the marks were made after completion of the grave mound. Probably, they had been there before the graves were constructed? Anyhow, they really look the same, no matter if there are few or many cups.
This is a compilation of megaliths elsewhere within my site.
