Holy stone of Muschenheim
Holy stone of Muschenheim
This is the southmost stone grave in Hessia. Research started 1998, and restauration was completed 2003. Locally, the work of the reconstruction is well documented. Also interesting is, how the stones were moved in the years between 1893 and 1913.
In this grave, ceramics and tools were found. The dead were not burnt during funeral. The grave was built for collective use of farmers and ranchers. Its shape shows parallels to graves found in the French Burgund area. The original grave was covered with an earth mound, and looked different than today.
The chamber has three capstones and an entry from the North. It was surrounded by stone package of 80 cm in height. It covered an area of 12 m times 8 m. The capstones weight up to 7 tons. The middle one consists of conglomerate, the others of quarzit.
In a 20 minute walk, the Kräppelstein can be visited.
This is a compilation of the most viewed locations presented in my site.
